How much can you discount an item before the sale loses money? Enter your regular price, cost per item and the discount you want to try. The next columns automatically show the dollar discount, sale price, dollar profit or loss, and a color-coded Profit, Break-even or Loss result. Change the discount until the result works for you.

One simple Excel sheet with 30 reusable rows and three clearly labeled examples. All results are per item, rounded to cents. Cost can include purchase cost, allocated freight and fixed per-item selling costs. Rent, payroll and percentage selling fees are not calculated. Break-even covers the cost you enter, not every business expense.
